Pirates fled from attacked ship

The pirates who attecked the 'Rowayton Eagle' have left the vessel after failing to breach the citadel. The hijacking is the seventh offshore incident this year and the third recorded offshore boarding. Eagle Bulk shipping has confirmed the vessel and crew were safe now that the incident has been resolved. AIS tracking suggested the vessel had been adrift 240 miles southeast of Lagos since Jan 27. The vessel is fully operational and anchored off Lagos in pos. 06° 22.15' N 003° 17.30' E on Feb 1.

Pirate attack in Gulf of Guinea

The 'Rowayton Eagle' was boarded by pirates on Jan 30, 2021, around 04.30 a.m. in the Gulf of Guinea south of Lome. The ship was enroute from Klaipedo to Lagos. It had been sailing in loops since Jan 27, waiting for the permission to enter port. It was have boarded 240 nautical miles off the coast of Lagos at 04.24 a.m. The Master and crew have mustered in the vessel's citadel and were in contact with the operator Eagle Bulk. All 19 crew members have been reported safe. The UKMTO and the local authorities have been advised of the attack and were responding. The incident was ongoing.
