Fire in Singapore
A fire broke out on the 'Rosa Dini', which was berthed at the Jurong Port Tank Terminals in Singapore, in the morning of June 14, 2023. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was alerted to the fire at 7.30 a.m. Smoke was seen on the forward part of the tanker. Officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force, MPA patrol craft and the terminals’ emergency response unit were deployed to put out the blaze and ensure navigational safety. The fire was extinguished within about two hour,s and the tanker’s crew was safe and accounted for. No injruies were reported. There was no damage to the tanks and berths at Jurong Port Tank Terminals. As a precautionary measure, operations at the adjacent berths have stopped and a nearby vessel has been shifted to the anchorage. The tanker had discharged 18,000 tonnes of gasoline in Indonesia on June 9, before arriving at Singapore on June 11.
Nigeria SSS arrests five suspected pirates
The State Security Service (SSS) said yesterday in Lagos that it has apprehended five suspected pirates, including a man believed to be a retired Naval officer. According to the security organisation, they were arrested for allegedly hijacking a vessel carrying 26,000 tonnes of fuel. SSS Deputy Director, Public Relations, Mrs Marilyn Ogar, announced this at a media briefing. She said the Lagos-bound vessel, ROSA TOMASOS, was hijacked by the suspects and others still at large on November 3, won its way to Lagos from the Niger Delta. Mrs Marilyn Ogar said: “On November 6, the SSS successfully recovered the vessel and its content intact while the suspects, who are members of a notorious gang of pirates, were apprehended.
