413 kilos drugs found in cargo to be loaded in Ceuta
Agents of the Civil Guard intercepted a total of 413 kilos of hashish oxygen cylinders transported by a truck that intended to ship the merchandise from Ceuta to Algeciras aboard the 'Festivo' in the afternoon of Oct 24, 2022. The actions started at 5.30 p.m., when the customs agents and the Ceuta tax company carried out the inspection of the cargo to be loaded on the ship. They observed signs of possible manipulation in some oxygen cylinders for industrial use. Given this circumstance, and after the recognition and detection of the drug specialty dog, it was determined that there were sufficient indications to proceed with the opening of one of the bottles in which 27,000 grams of hashish were found. A count that has continued in the morning of Oct 26, with the inspection of all the cylinders, locating drugs in 15 of them. Although the first information pointed to the arrest of the truck driver as the alleged perpetrator of a crime, in the end the arrest did not take place, after it was determined that he himself was unaware of the presence of the drug inside the container. The Civil Guard started investigation to determine those responsible.
Migrants hidden in scap cargo
Three migrants found among scrap metal in the cargo hold of the 'Festivo' while she was enroute from Ceuta, where she had sailed on Dec 4, 2020, to Malaga . A crew member discovered them during his surveillance rounds on the ship on Dec 5. The young men were packed amongst scrap metal in a tank measuring 14 meters long by 2.5 meters wide. The crew member notified the National Police and Guardia Civil, as the migrant men were completely trapped amongst the metal. On Dec 6 members of the fire department took an hour, using ropes and levers, to free the men who were immediately transferred to the local hospital, showing mild signs of hypothermia. Waves of three meters and a wind of 35 knots could have moved the cargo and thm have crushed these three young people who have been saved from certain death.
