Brandnew wellboat ran aground off Klo
On Dec 13, 2017, at 5 a.m. the "Ronia Diamond", a brand new wellboat, which has just been handed over by the Myklebust Verft AS to Sølvtrans AS, Ålesund, the world's largest wellbore shipping company, ran aground off Klo in Vesterålen. It has been used in shuttle traffic between the Øksnes west bight and Skutvik during the last week. The ship was able to refloat soon due to the rising tide. It suffered a small hole in a bottom tank and was escorted to Sortland by the lifeboat "Knut Hoem" where the check the damage was to be checked. Some bottom plates may have be to removed for repairs. Divers were sent down to survey the condition of the hull. The company was considering whether the ship was going to Myklebust or taken to Harstad and chose to send it to the Myklebust Verft in Gursken to which the ship sailed on Dec 14. It was, however, expected the accident will not cause any delays for the scheduled delivery to Cermaq in Chile in 2018.
