Barge breached in allision
On Dec 10, 2019, the 'Rodach', 2672 ts (EU-No.: 04502620), slammed into the gate lock in Viereth-Trunstadt on the Main-Danube-Canal near Bamberg. The fire brigade and techical support work THW were called as the hull was breached above and underneath the waterline. The ship suffered water ingress in the forepeak. A leak sail was torn over the leaks so that the bilge pumps were able to cope with the flooding. Divers were called to patch the breaches with metal sheets so that a transit to a repair yard becomes possible. The ship remained inside the lock for the time being. The accident was caused by a steering gear failure. The ship was loaded with a cargo of 1.000 tons rape and was bound from Budapest to Würzburg. The passing ship traffic was not hampered.
