Lifeboat damaged in action

Thu Dec 12 19:14:27 CET 2019 Timsen

The 'RNLI lifeboat 17-04' (41 gt, built 1995) was damaged while rescuing a fisherman on Nov 29, 2019. The fisherman, whose boat had sank, spent 12 hours on rocks north of Herm, Guernsey, bbefore he was rescued by a HM Coastguard helicopter on Nov 29. During the rescue, the rocks damaged the hull and propellers of the 'RNLI lifeboat 17-04'. The full extent of repairs required was still being assessed. Despite the damage the lifeboat was able to return to St. Peter Port. A damage assessment was due to be completed this week.
