The "RMS Libava" ran aground on the Westerscheldt near Terneuzen on Dec 13 at 10.30 p.m. It carried a cargo of 1450 tons steel and was underway from Antwerp towards Gunness. The tugs "Multrasalvor" and "Brugge" were on scene soon after. The water police jointly with the military police boarded the ship and found the captain from St. Petersburg intoxicated with 1,9 per mill and is under detention since. The first salvage attempt at 11.40 p.m failed due to the ebb tide. At 05.35 a.m. on Dec 14 another attempt was successful. The "RMS Libava" was escorted to Flushing roads where the ship anchored since. On the whole four salvage vessels were involved.
