River cruise ship damaged in allision
On Oct 8 at 11 p.m. the "River Navigator" allided with the lower gate of the lock Bachhausen im the Neumarkt municipality when leaving it. The wheelhouse was damaged, antennas torn off, windows smashed and the aluminium parts bent. The damage to the ship was estimated to be around 100.000 Euro. The ship was underway from Colonia to Budapest with 131 passengers, most of them from the USA, and 39 crew members. The canal traffic was interrupted until 2.30 a.m. on Oct 9 According to investigations of the police Beilngries the wheel house was not lowered enough. The damaged ship was moored near the lock. The passengers started a scheduled excursion, and it was expected that following temporary repairs the ship would be able to proceed to Passau.
