Lifeboat saved wife of skipper from the water
In the early morning of Nov 19, 2015, a woman fell off the deck of the "Laurina" in the locks of Lemmer on the IJsselmeer side. The accident happened during maneuvering while the skipper was at the helm and his wife was working with the rope in front at the bow. When he remarked that she was gone, he alerted the Coastguard at 06:41 a.m. which taksed two lifeboats of the KNRM Lemmer. Also emergency services, fire rescue, police and ambulance were alerted. The lifeboat "Palace Noordwijk" quickly saw that the woman had swum to a bollard hand clung to it. Because the water temperature was only 11 degrees, the woman hwas already severely hypothermic and hardly approachable. The lifeboat crew pulled her from the water and provided hot blankets to prevent further cooling. The lock keepers were also informed of the incident and openend the lock immediately so that the lifeboat could pass and the woman be transferred to the ambulance. The lifeboat "Valentijn" transported the skipper of the barge to the ambulance to accompagnie his wife to the hospital where she recovered meanwhile.
