Three fishers saved by "Rhön"-crew

Sun Aug 21 13:35:16 CEST 2011 Timsen

In a dramatic rescue operation, the crew of the "Rhoen" saved the lives of three fishermen. On Aug 20, 2011, around 11:00 a.m. a sailing yacht made an emergency call after a fishing boat sank off Dahme at the Saga Bank. The CG vessels Rhoen" and "Neustrelitz" of the federal police went immediately to the scene. Also a Pirol helicopter was involved in the rescue operation. While two people were saved relatively quickly by the "Rhoen", the third man was difficult to save. The commander of the "Rhoen" finally jumped into the water to preserve the lifeless body from sinking. After the male person was pulled on board, immediately resuscitation measures were initiated. These were fortunately successful. The survivors were brought to the pier in Dahme, where the hypothermic men were medicalley treated.
