Barge in danger of sinking following lock allision
On June 10, 2013, around 5 p.m. the "Rhenus Datteln" pushing two 75-m-barges allided with the lock wall in Datteln at the conjunction of the Wesel-Datteln- and Dortmund-Ems-Canal. The front barge which was carrying 3500 tons coal suffered a gash and strong water ingress. The ships backed out of the lock and were moored at the shipre. The fire brigade was able to stabilize the Situation using a submersible pump capable of 3 tons water per minute. On June 12 around noon the barge train was allowed to continue to Lüben after divers had patched the leak of 4x5 centimeters in the bow of the front barge.
