Collision on the Waal
On the Waal near Nijmegen the 'Rhein Melodie' (EU-No .: 04803570) was in collision with an oncoming push unit on July 6, 2018. Four cabins were damaged and temporarily unusable. The passenger ship first had to be repaired at a shipyard. The police started investigating the accident. The patrol boat 'RWS 43'of Rijkswaterstaat was on scene too. Body of missing deckhand found
The body of the 47 year old deck hand lost over board in the night of July 4 between Altrip and Mannheim from the "Rhein Melodie" was recovered by BASF-employees on July 7. It drifted ashore at a tap of the company at the Rhine shore and was identified by the passport. There was no suspicion of foul play.

On July 4, 2016, a deck Hand of the "Rhein Melodie" was lost over board around 1 a.m. near the ferry pt. Altrip at Rhine km 415/416. A passenger remarked that the man fell over board and raised alert. The master notified the river control Oberwesel which alerted the fire rescue Ludwigshafen which launched a large scale search Operation including the fire brigades from Altrip and Mannheim, the police which launched a helicopter with a thermal camera. the life saving societies (DLRG) Mannheim, Ladenburg and Pfalz with 25 men and five boats. On the whole 70 men wwere searching for the 46 year old man. The chances for survical were regarded as slim meanwhile. The currents on site were strong. The "Rhein Melodie" was coming from Kehl and berthed at the wharf Oberrhein House for the night. On board were 140 passengers. It was decided to continue the voyage to Amsterdam.
