Two tugs damaged in incident on Thames
Already on Nov 15, 2012, at 6.00 a.m. the "Amber", leaving Tilbury Power Station suffered engine failure. The vessel subsequently went aground upstream of the PLA’s Denton Wharf base, having struck several moorings to which barges and tugs were secured. The Port of London Authority (PLA) managed the response to the incident from its London Port Control Centre at Gravesend. A PLA harbour service launch was on scene along with members of the PLA Marine Services team who are in the process of re-securing a barge and the tugs "Recruit" and "Mersina" which had gone adrift. The "Amber" was re-floated at 8.45 a.m. and berthed alongside Tilbury Landing Stage before moving into Tilbury Dock for inspection and repairs in the afternoon. The tugs and barge which were adrift earlier were secured. The "Mersina" remains on Denton Slipway to date, it had suffered damage at the shaft. The "Recruit" was threatened to become a write off. The "Amber" left Tilbury again on Nov 30.
