Grounding on the Rhine
The "Regina W II", 2716 ts (EU-No.: 04807580), ran aground on Sep 13, 2017, on the Rhine at river km 741 off Lausward port in Düsseldorf. The fire brigade Düsseldorf attended with a fire boat and a work boat and dropped off an officer on the tanker which was carrying a cargo of 2000 tons diesel fuel. Also the water police, the river authority Duisburg, the environmental authority of Düsseldorf and other representants of involved parties were on scene. On Sep 14 another tank barge, the German "Shane V", 1685 ts (EU-No.: 04805500), came from Düsseldorf and went alongside and lightered 600 tons of the cargo. A first salvage attempt after the removal of 500 tons had failed at noon. Around 1 p.m. the ship could finally be refloated and escorted by the fire rescue into the port of Neuss for surveys. At 1.35 p.m. the fire rescue could be stood down, and the investigation of the "Regina W II" and the damage survey started. No pollution was reported during the accident. At 8.45 p.m. the tank barge left the port of Neuss again, bound to Gelsenberg.
