Truck turned over in storm

Tue Dec 04 12:34:56 CET 2018 Timsen

In the night of Nov 29, 2018, trucks began to move on the cargo deck of the "Regal Star" which was heading from Paldiski to Kapellskär at that time, one of which overturned. Goods were moving in several trucks because of the storm. The cause of the incident was an insufficiently secured load, as a result of which the metal structure in the truck fell onto a truck that was carrying a concrete panel, and the latter overturned. When the ferry arrived at its destination, the truck was lifted and pulled onto the quaay. The vessel had arrived two hours after the scheduled time, but departed on schedule. Before the departure, the team conducted an additional check regarding the securing of the cargo and, due to bad weather conditions, did not take trucks carrying large concrete structures on board. Destroyed lighthouse salvaged

Mon Nov 05 12:55:29 CET 2018 Timsen

After the "Regal Star" llided with the lighthouse Remmargrund on Oct 30, the tower has been inspected and the parts have been salvaged by the Swedish Maritime Administration's work vessel "Fyrbjörn". Additionally, the lighthouse will be replaced by a temporary firelight, and a new ViVa station has been set up. Divers found the foundation was still stable, but the tower and other parts above the water surface needed to be replaced. The tower and other parts that ended up in the water in the collision have been raised. As also Remmargrund's ViVa station was damaged, the Swedish Maritime Administration, in cooperation with SMHI, has created the Söderarm station. The station is available in the ViVa app, the map on the Swedish Maritime Administration website and via AIS. The station shows wind force, average wind, air humidity and air temperature. Regal Star distressed near Kapellskär

Tue Oct 30 14:08:03 CET 2018 Timsen

On Oct 30, 2018, the "Regal Star", having sailed from Kapellskär to Paldiski at 9.30 a.m., was disabled by a blackout at 10.15 a.m. near the lighthouse Remmargrund in the fairway northeast of Kapellskär. The ship lost control and hit the post which was torn off. Then it dropped anchor to wait for assistance of a tug. There were 38 people, 11 passengers and 27 crew members, aboard the ship. At 11.45 a.m., the tug "Montfred" (MMSI: 265703540) and the lifeboat "Rescue Stenhammar" of the SSRS Räfsnäs had arrived at the site. The tug has hooked up and kept the ship now so that it did not drift further to shore in hard winds blowing with about 20 m / s and wave heights of 2-3 meters. The ship was to be towed back to Kapellskär in the evening hours. The anti pollution vessel "KBV 031" was following the convoy. At 6.45 p.m. the ship was in port. The "Regal Star"'s departures have initially been cancelled through Nov 2. Tallink has promised to contact everyone whose travel plans may be affected by these cancellations.
