Ferry sidelined due to fuel pump issue

Sat Dec 18 15:11:12 CET 2021 Timsen

The 'Red Jet 4' broke down, and there was not date for its return, awaiting a replacement part just weeks after Red Funnel announced it would be returning to service, as a back-up boat. On Oct 15 ferry could not be used because it had undergone major engine repair works and had a long wait for a safety survey and re-certification on Nov 1. The operator expected it to be back up and running on the week of Nov 15. A month later, a fault with the fuel pump of the second engine was discovered once it returned to service. She was unable to fill in for the 'Red Jet 7' when the newest boat in Red Funnel's fleet was pulled from service, due to a fuel pressure issue on Dec 16, 2021, leaving just one ship to carry passengers travelling between Cowes and Southampton. The operator awaiting the delivery of essential parts to resolve the issue, but there were delivery delays. The 'Red Jet 7' has since returned to the Cowes to Southampton crossing but with no date for the return of 'Red Jet 4', there is uncertainty for passengers in the coming weeks if new problems develop with the ferries.
