Livestock carrier caused marine pollution
A water pollution, covering an area of approximately 150 square metres from oil-based painting products, was caused by the 'Rami M' in the morning of Feb 3, 2024. The ship, with 39 crew members on board, which was berthed at the PPC pier in the port of Keratsini, Piraeus. The pollution was caused by the oil painting of part of the vessel's exterior by crew members. Afterwards, under the care of the Master and the crew members, the decontamination work was completed by the same means with satisfactory results. The Master of the vessel was placed under administrative arrest by the Port Department of Keratsini, which conducted a preliminary investigation, for the violation of Article 3 of Law 743/77, as codified by the P.D. 55/98 on marine environment protection.
