Pirates freed the tanker "RBD Anema e Core", crew safe

Fri Jul 29 08:27:31 CEST 2011 arnekiel

The pirates freed the tanker "RBD Anema e Core", leaving the vessel at 22:37 on 28 July. The ship is now sailing toward secure waters. The captain stated that everyone on board is well. The tanker, owned by Torre del Greco's RBD Armatori (Rizzo-Bottiglieri-De Carlini Armatori S.p.A.) is loaded with diesel fuel and was seized by pirates during the night between 23 and 24 July last, while sailing offshore of Nigeria. . .

Pirates seized an Italian tanker with a crew of 23 in the Gulf of Guinea on July 24 2011, the ANSA news agency said. The Rbd Anema e Core's crew includes 20 Filipino seamen, two Italians and a Romanian captain. Three pirates managed to board the ship 23 nautical miles south of Cotonou, the economic capital of Benin. Italy's foreign ministry said its crisis unit was in touch with the Naples-based shipowner and following the situation closely. Comment: it’s a second or third attack on a tanker during last several days, and we don’t know any details of previous ones – were vessels just robbed, or was it something else. We don’t even know whether these are hijacks as we know them, or short-time control of the vessels.
