New sub NRP Tridente formally accepted by portugese navy
Portugal’s ‘Tridente’ submarine surpassed all the navy’s expectations and will be formally taken over by the state one year after initial reception, the admiralty said last week. A naval statement said the vessel, “confirmed and surpassed operational capacities during its 125 days at sea” and it was “an excellent platform” for information gathering, especially in combating drugs smuggling.” The submarine is currently back at its shipyard in Kiel, Germany, for a “warranty check-up”. Portugal bought two of this class of submarine last year in a controversial deal worth over €1 billion that led to several police investigations and court cases involving bribery and forged military counterpart contracts.
