Engine failure in Istanbul Strait

Fri Jun 15 17:28:51 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Providence", en route from Nea Karvali to Capu Midia in ballast, suffered engine failure during its Istanbul Strait passage at Kanlica point on June 14, 2018, at 2 a.m. The coastal safety tug "Kurtarma 7" and a technical team were sent to provide assistance for vessel and strait traffic safety. Subsequently, the vessel was shifted under supervision of the tug to a morring at Pasabahce anchorage. The vessel's strait passage permission was cancelled by the strait authority until completion of permanent repairs. The vessel was imposed a penalty due to the breach of Istanbul Strait safe passage regulations, as well as it should also pay for the tug attendance and assistance expenses, prior to its departure. Repairs were commenced by the crew, and on June 15 at 3.50 p.m. the vessel berthed in Capu Midia. The ship then arrived at Nea Karvali on June 18 at 11.20 p.m. and and sailed on June 19 at 05.60 a.m., bound for Alexandria.
