Cement tanker sank house boat
On Mar 31, 2014, at 1.15 p.m. a French house boat was sunk on the Meuse at Everdineweerd in Katwijk (North-Brabant) when the "Prinsengracht" smashed into it. The sole occupant could save himself through an open window, only the roof of the boat remained visible. Ship traffic at Katwijk was hampered while the fire brigade recovered his dead border collie. The Frenchman had sailed upstream between Linden and Katwijk upstream when the tanker, also running upstream, ran into ist stern. The houseboat was pushed forward about 400 meters almost under the railway bridge over the Meuse before it capsized. The police was investigating how the accident happened and if the captain deviated from his line. The tanker under police escort sailed to Cujik. The captain of the houseboat has lost all his belongins. He had sailed for four years on the boat. He got a provisional shelter and clothes of the municipality Cujik. The wreck was turned upright and raised by a crane barge in the run of the day.
