Cruise ship evacuated after grounding

Sat Jun 08 14:29:06 CEST 2019 Timsen

The ‘Brabant‘, 1556 ts (EU-No.: 04804710), ran aground on the Mosel in the morning of June 8, 2019, near Klotten and suffered a number of leaks, which caused water ingress in the engine room. The ship managed to berth in Cochem-Cond, where the 106 passengers and about 40 crew members were evacuated and accomodated in a nearby hotel. The fire brigade attended with pumps and started to dewater the engine room which was flooded one meter high. The ship could be stabilized, and divers were called to locate and patch the leaks. There was a crack of 40 centimeters length in the foreship. After the leaks were patched, the ship was sent to the Deutz Shipyard in Colonia-Mülheim for repairs where it arrived on June 10 at 6.10 p.m. Before, divers had temporarily patched the lecks. The ship sailed again after repairs on June 12 at 4.30 p.m. The next ports of call were Mannheim on June 13 and Strasbourg on June 14. The accident may have been caused by an evasive manoever while the ship was enroute to Koblenz, according to the investigations of the police. The 150 passengers were meanwhile transferred home. River cruise ship slammed into Rhine embankment

Mon Jun 11 09:17:49 CEST 2018 Timsen

In the evening of June 10, 2018, the "Brabant", 1556 ts (EU-No.: 04804710), ran onto the Rhine shore at Budenheim with 99 persons on board. One female passenger fell on deck due to the impact and was treated on board. The accident at river km 508 was thought to have been caused by a driving mistake of the master. The ship as well as the embankment were damaged, but the "Brabant" was able to proceed to Mainz for investigations and later continued to Speyer where she arrived in the morning of June 11.
