Wed Mar 05 19:16:34 CET 2014 Timsen

The "Prince Joseph 1" was attacked by gunmen in a speedboat in position 04 17N 007 53E in the Bight of Bonny off the Akwa Ibom State, Odin.tc reported. The attack took place on Mar 4, 2014, at 01.30 a.m. Three crew members were taken hostages. After the pirates left, the vessel sailed to Onne and docked in the afternoon Mar 4. There were no casualties or injuries as a result of the assault, but wheelhouse windows were damaged. Nigerian owner Awaritse Nigeria has not had any communication with the abducted crew or their kidnappers. The assault came on the same day armed pirates in two boats fired on a bulk carrier 60 miles west-south-west of Brass. The vessel increased speed and took evasive manoeuvres before the gunmen aborted the attack. The vessel sustained bullet damage to the accommodation block.
