Crew member who cut off his hand was medevaced
A crew member of the "Praia de Santa Cruz" was medevaced to the Trelew Hospital "Adolfo Margara" on March 13, 2018, aroudn 4 p.m. The coastal station of the Argentine Naval Prefecture received an emergency call from the captain of the fishing vessel who reported that a crew member of Portuguese nationality, aged 23 years, had cut off his left hand while doing tasks with a saw in the processing plant. He received first aid, and the captain maintained at all times consultations with the coastal station so that the doctor of the Prefecture in Comodoro Rivadavia, indicated the steps to him to follow. Immediately, the Prefectura Naval sent an aircraft and a helicopter with rescue swimmers on board which hoisted the injured with a basket.

The "Praia Santa Cruz" which failed to report the catch of 44 tons of cod off Svalbard and was captured by the Coast Guard boat "Sortland" off Svalbard on June 23 remains arrested at Tromsø. The Portuguese company was imposed to pay a fine of just over half a million Norwegian crowns, while the captain received a fine of 25,000 Norwegian crowns by a prosecutor at Tromsø. Third time capture for 'Praia De Santa Cruz'
“Praia De Santa Cruz” has two times earlier been arrested for under-reporting fish catch in Arctic waters. Last time was in 2010, also then for under-reporting of catch. A year before, in August 2009 the Coast Guard’s seizure of the trawler caused diplomatic meetings between Norwegian and Portuguese authorities. The trawler’s owners then got a fine of NOK 500.000 (€66.550) and the captain got a fine of NOK 100.000 (€13.310). Lisbon disputed Norway’s right to seizure “Praia De Santa Cruz” and in particular Norway’s jurisdiction in the fishery protection zone around Svalbard. When “Praia De Santa Cruz” now for the third time is brought in to port in Tromsø under suspicion of under-reporting catch from the waters around Svalbard, it could easily cause more diplomatic challenges between Oslo and Lisbon.
