Medevac off Southampton
On Feb 9, 2013, a Coastguard helicopter has been scrambled after reports of a crew member being injured on board the "Prague Express", which was heading towards Southampton and due to arrive at about 4 p.m. The man began losing a lot of blood after crushing his arm while working on the ship 30 miles south of Shoreham. The Shoreham RNLI lifeboat was launched at around 1.40 p.m. but later stood down when the Coastguard helicopter was used instead. The rescuers applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding before getting him off the ship and to the hospital. The injured man, who was from the Philippines, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
