Disabled ferry towed by Coastguard boat
The Coast Guard came to the rescue of the "Manhattan" which was disabled in the New York Harbor with 100 people aboard in the afternoon of Nov 22, 2016. The ferry was stuck near Governors Island in the East River around 3:30 p.m. The captain had dropped the anchor, but it wasn’t holding due to the current and weather conditions. The Coast Guard established a safety zone around the "Manhattan" and warned other vessels to use caution in the area. Members of the Coast Guard boarded the ferry, and the 87-foot patrol boat "Sailfish", homeported in Bayonne, New Jersey, took it in tow at 4 p.m. and pulled it up the East River to pier 36 where a commercial salvage tug helped maneuver the ferry directly to the pier 36. By 6 p.m., the passengers disembarked safely. Report with photos: http://www.uscgnews.com/go/doc/4007/2902474/
