Ship boarded by robbers in Freetown

Wed Jul 24 12:14:23 CEST 2019 Timsen

The "Pomerenia Sky", while being moored in position 08 28 00 N, 13 28 10 W, at Freetown anchorage, was approached by a small wooden boat on July 21, 2019, at 2.40 a.m. Five robbers armed with knives boarded the vessel using a rope attached with a hook. They took a duty crewmember hostage and stole his personal belongings as well as properties. The crew noticed the robbers and raised alarm. All doors were locked, and the crew was mustered. Hearing the alarm and seeing the crew's alertness, the robbers fled the vessel and escaped. The Freetown Port control was informed. During the incident the duty crew sustained injuries. The ship sailed from Freetown on July 22 en route to Nouakchott, ETA Jul 27.
