Faulty control box set expedition ship adrift

Sat Dec 22 15:43:10 CET 2012 Timsen

On Dec 21, 2012, the "Plancius" drifted for some hours in the Southern Ocean, about 270 kilometers south of the southern tip of Argentina, after the engines failed, possibly because of a fault in a control box. The ship has later resumed the journey after the fault was corrected. Technicians replaced a switch of 200 kilo weight. After the repair was finished, the engines could be restarted. The was expected in the port of Ushuaia on Dec 22. There was no danger for the 92 passengers according to Oceanwide Expeditions. The "Plancius" was returning from the Antarctic.
