Faulty control box set expedition ship adrift
On Dec 21, 2012, the "Plancius" drifted for some hours in the Southern Ocean, about 270 kilometers south of the southern tip of Argentina, after the engines failed, possibly because of a fault in a control box. The ship has later resumed the journey after the fault was corrected. Technicians replaced a switch of 200 kilo weight. After the repair was finished, the engines could be restarted. The was expected in the port of Ushuaia on Dec 22. There was no danger for the 92 passengers according to Oceanwide Expeditions. The "Plancius" was returning from the Antarctic.
Waiting for weather window
The "Plancius" with the tug "Otway" alongside the jetty at King Edward Point at Apr 21, 2012, was still waiting for a weather window before departing on the trip to Montevideo.
Plancius passengers on their way home
The "Ushuaia" has taken aboard the passengers of the "Plancius" by Apr 18 and is taking them to Montevideo in Uruguay according to Oceanwide Expeditions. This will take about five days. From there they will return home by plane. On board the "Plancius" were 122 persons, among them 79 passengers. They had spent the waiting time with excursions in South-Georgia.
