Tanker took part in rescue mission

Thu Sep 18 09:38:42 CEST 2014 Timsen

The "Phoenix Admiral" enroute from Trieste to Ceyhan took part in the rescue operation of 31 refugees on Sep 14, 2014. First the cargo m/v "GSP Pegasus" answered a distress call sent by the refugees, locating and approaching the wayward boat at approx. 11 p.m. 31 persons, mainly women and children of uncertain nationality were found onboard a small boat drifting away, apparently because of an engine failure, in the eastern Mediterranean approximately 60 nautical miles the E-SE off Karpathos Island. The "GSP Pegasus assisted" the refugees and maintained the communication channels open with the Greek authorities and NATO, providing assistance to the refugees in distress until two larger vessels approached: the "Phoenix Admiral" and the container ship "Nicolas A". Following the Greek authorities instructions, the 31 refugees were taken onboard the "Nicolas A" and transported to Rhodes. The "GSP Pegasus" rescue mission was successfully completed at 03.30 a.m. on Sep 15. The vessel set sail for Constanta where the vessel arrived on Sep 17. The "Phoenix Admiral" berthed at Ceyhan on Sep 16 at 11.40 p.m.
