Bulkcarrier in collision with fishing vessel

Tue Sep 15 10:13:33 CEST 2015 Timsen

On Sep 14, 2015, around 10.20 a.m. the "Venus" was in collision with the local fishing vessel "Amros" with about 30 people on board 60 miles northeast of the Kuala Terengganu coast in the South China Sea. The fishing boat was hit on starboard side at 10:20 a.m. and was safely towed into Malaysia’s Coast. Other fishing vessels, near the area of the accident, were able to rescue two fishermen that were aboard the boat. The rescuing vessels did not determine any casualties or missing persons from the fishing boat. The master of the "Venus" informed the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency about the accident. The vessel was coming from Cambodia with a cargo of sand abd was en route to Singapore, when it hit the fishing boat. The patrol boats "Pengawal 48", "Sebatik" and "Segantang" were dispatched to the location. Malaysia’s Coast Guard issued instructions for the "Venus" to proceed to Pulau Kapas for investigative purposes. When the investigation was finished, the ship sailed off to its Singapore destination.
