Buoy lighthouse vessel deployed after container loss in Pentland Firth
Containers lost overboard from a cargo ship in a storm on Oct 31, 2020, have been found on the shore on Hoy. Farmer Harvey Seatter spotted them while moving sheep at Melsetter, first in the sea, and later destroyed on the shore as the tide fell. Two 40 foot containers have come ashore. A Coastguard tug was acting as a guard vessel in the Pentland Firth, and the Northern Lighthouse Board was also assisting with the search, and the 'Pharos' was scheduled to take over guard vessel duty from the tug on Nov 1. A Coastguard aircraft has also been conducting overflights of the area.
