Cargo ship inerecepted for suspected drug smuggling
The "Langeland" was intercepted in the Alboran Sea 15 miles from Ceuta in the early morning of Oct 11, 2017, shortly after passing Gibraltar, by the Spanish Coastguard and law-enforcement ageny on suspicion of drug trafficking. At noon the shipp was taken to Malaga, assisted by the tug "Vehintiocho" and escorted by boats of the Maritime Guardia Civil and the Customs. It docked at the Romero Dobledo Quay for a thorough search. Until the evening of Oct 11, nothing was found yet. The "Langeland" had a Turkish crew of 12 on board and was en route from Kingston to Iskenderun with a cargo of flour. Sold to Turkish owners
The "Langeland" left the port of Emden on Aug 18, 2016, after having been laid up four months, and sailed to Castellon, ETA Aug 27, after having been sold to the Ferat Ucat Kuzey Shipping in Istanbul.
Broken hose caused oil spill in Emden
The "Langeland" caused an oil spill in the port of Emden on Mar 13, 2014. The ship had berthed at the North Quay. When opening the hatches of the cargo holds, a hydraulic hose broke, and about 0,1 tons hydraulic fuel leaked out. About 20 liters ran into the Harbour basin. The ship was barred off with an oil boom by the fire rescue Emden. The captain was subject of an Investigation by the police and had to pay a safety deposit of 1000 Euro.
