Captain medevaced off New Orleans

The US Coast Guard medevaced the captain of the 'Peridot' approximately four miles off Southwest Pass, Louisiana, on Feb 6, 2023. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a call at 12:23 p.m. on VHF-FM channel 16 from the vessel, stating the captain was experiencing dizziness and chest pain. Watchstanders diverted a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew to assist. The aircrew arrived on scene, hoisted the captain, and transferred him to University Medical Center in New Orleans. The captain was last reported to be in stable condition. The ship was being anchored off New Orleans since Jan 20.

SK Shipping continues fleet disposal

Unconfirmed brokers report that the active Korean seller SK Shipping has just offloaded the 55,600 dwt K. Peridot to Strategic Bulk Carriers, the dry bulk arm of Connecticut-headquartered MT Maritime Management( MTM), for $8.40m. The ship will be the largest bulker owned in Strategic’s fleet which to date has featured handysizes and one supramax. SK Shipping has been accelerating its bulker disposals in recent weeks.
