Masterbulk trials Japanese battery solution on 54,810 dwt ship
As part of a joint project with Singapore owner Masterbulk, Japan’s Eco Marine Power (EMP) announced today that an UltraBattery battery pack manufactured by the Furukawa Battery Company has been installed on the large general cargo ship, Panamana. This battery pack will later form part of an Aquarius Marine Solar Power solution developed by EMP and be evaluated jointly with Masterbulk and Zeaborn Ship Management. The battery pack installed on the ship incorporates class-approved UB-50-12 valve regulated lead acid (VRLA) batteries along with a marine-grade battery frame kit. This combination allowed for the batteries and frame kit to be loaded onto the ship and installed by the ship’s technical team with only remote support being required. The frame kit for the batteries was manufactured by Teramoto Iron Works.
Medevac off Barfleur
On Oct 15, 2014, at 9.15 a.m. the CROSS Jobourg was notified by the Dutch Caostguard of a suspected stroke of a crew member on the "Panamana". This diagnosis was made during medical consultations requested by the ship and the specialized center of Den Helder. The ship was 100 kilometers northeast of Barfleur in the French area of responsibility, so the Joburg CROSS organized and directed the evacuation of the 46 year old Filipino sailor. The CROSS Joburg mobilized an EC 225 helicopter of the Navy base in Maupertus and a military medical team of the Medical Army Center in Querqueville. 20 minutes later, the EC225 was on scene and the medical team was winched aboard the freighter. Once the patient was stabilized, he was hoisted aboard the helicopter on a stretcher and taken to the Jacques Monod Hospital in Le Havre, where he wasdelivered at 11:20 a.m. French report with photo: https://www.premar-manche.gouv.fr/communiques-presse/evacuation-medicale-marin-sur-cargo-panamana.html
