Medevac off Richards Bay
On May 20, 2018, at 06.30 a,m,, the NSRI lifeboat "Spirit of Round Table II", accompanied by an ICE Medical Rescue rescue paramedic, was launched to rendezvous with the "Nord Sirius" at anchorage off-shore of Richards Bay port. The NSRI had first been placed on alert on May 19 at 8 p.m., and the medevac was arranged to be conducted at first light. On arrival on the scene the ship lifted anchor and created a lee for the lifeboat. A rescue paramedic and an NSRI rescue swimmer was put onboard the ship, and the 23 year old Filipino patient, suffering from anxiety, was medically treated by the paramedic and secured into a Stokes basket stretcher and transferred onto the lifeboat and transported to our sea rescue base without incident accompanied by a fellow sailor. The patient has been transported to hospital by an ICE Medical Rescue ambulance in a stable condition in the care of paramedics. Nord Sirius stranded off Morocco du to lacks in volatility of cargo
The "Nord Sirus" was being stranded off the Morocco coast since May 2, 2017, loaded with 75.000 tons of Russian thermal coal which was bound for the Moroccan power generator Jorf Lasfar Energy (JLEC) but didn’t meet dry volatile matter criteria, 38, which is higher than JLEC’s maximum specification of 35. The vessel was moving in legs since May 2. The coal was loaded at Ventspils, on Apr 20 and was said to have been supplied by London-headquartered trader Trafigura as part of a buy tender which JLEC had awarded in the mid-$80s/mt some weeks previously.
