Wellboat raised in Caicaén Channel
In the morning of Mar 1, 2013, the "Orca Yagan", which had sunk in Caicaén Channel at Calbuco on Feb 17, was raised. The accident had happended while downloading at the salmon processing plant Marine Harvest Chile. The ship had capsized at 7:30 p.m. after having landed nearly 96% of ist cargo. The mechanical failure had affected valves and caused ab instant water ingress in one of the storage tanks of fish. The ship heeled over to starboard towards the pontoon and finally sank Stern first. The salvage work was carried out in 11 continuous days by Empresa Oxxean. Salvors were focusing on efforts to prevent possible oil spills. Then they installated inflating balloons which were filled by air injection to achieve the an upright position of the vessel and positioning it adjacent to the wellboat "Oxxean Doze", which stabilized the ship with its winch lifting capacity of 70 tons. Finally the wreck was towed to shore and was pumped out in the intertidal zoneThe ship was handed over to its owners the same day under the authorization of the Maritime Authority.
