Engine damage in Kiel

Fri Apr 29 22:16:21 CEST 2016 Timsen

Enroute from Söby to Ruisbroek the "Oraholm" suffered engine damage when entering the Holtenau locks of the Kiel Canal sailing eastbound on Apr 29, 2016, around 4.15 p.m. As the ship was unable to proceed after a loud bang, large plooms of smoke emerged from the smokestack. Police officers boarded the ship. The tugs "Kiel" and "Kitzeberg" were called to pull the tanker out again astern one hour later. The ship was berthed at the North Jetty of the port of Kiel around 6 p.m. where the damage to the injection and the turbocharger was fixed, on Apr 30 at 2.40 a.m. and reached the waters of the Northsea after an uneventful canal transit at 10 a.m., continuing on its way towards Ruisbroek one day late.
