Containership’s Transit Sets New Panama Canal Record

Thu May 25 11:30:19 CEST 2017 arnekiel

The OOCL France has set a new record as the largest ship to transit the Expanded Panama Canal since its inauguration nearly one year ago. The new record comes less than a month after the COSCO Development became the first 13,000 TEU containership to use the expanded waterway. The vessel went on to set the soon-to-be-broken record as the largest containership to visit the U.S. east coast. According to the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), Hong Kong-flagged OOCL France measures 366.47 meters in length by 48.23 meters in beam and has a total TEU allowance (TTA) of 13,926 twenty-foot containers, or 13,208 TEU based on OOCL’s website.

Mon Apr 29 17:53:19 CEST 2013 arnekiel

In celebrating the delivery of the fourth 13,208 TEU containership to OOCL, a christening ceremony to commemorate the unveiling of the new mega vessel was held on Geoje Island in South Korea today, said in the company's press release. As this vessel is leased to NYK Line of Japan, it was named by Sponsor Mrs. Anita Hung as the m.v. NYK Hercules. Among our distinguished guests was also our Guest of Honor, Mr. Benjamin Hung, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Ltd, who witnessed the naming of the mega vessel.
