Hapag-Lloyd informs about the situation on OOCL Canada after severe engine problems
On Saturday, November 16, 2013 the OOCL Canada encountered a severe problem with the Main Engine System, the company said in its press release. After a risk assessment was conducted, and for the safety of the vessel, crew, cargo, and containers on board, the Master recommended a vessel inspection and to not complete the Trans-Pacific voyage from Kaohsiung to Long Beach. As such, the OOCL Canada has been arranged to arrive in Shanghai (Yangshan) on about November 23, 2013 due to emergency repairs. The OOCL Tianjin will phase in on November 25, 2013 to replace the OOCL Canada. The OOCL Tianjin will be arriving on about December 7, 2013 to Long Beach.
OOCL christened OOCL Canada, an 8,888 TEU vessel
Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. (OOCL) celebrated the christening of OOCL Canada, an 8,888 TEU vessel today, at a naming ceremony held on the new Changxing Island shipyard of Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. (HZ) in Shanghai, China, OOCL press release said. “OOCL Canada is second in the line of eight 8,888 TEU vessels built for us by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Company. OOCL Canada is 335 meters long, 42.8 meters wide and has a deadweight of approximately 100,400 mt. She will be deployed on OOCL’s Middle East Asia express route serving Intra-Asia Trade and her 42-day port rotation begins in Shanghai, calling Ningbo, Hong Kong, Shekou, Singapore, Jebel Ali, Dammam, Port Klang, completing the loop by sailing back to Singapore, Hong Kong, and finally to Shanghai.
