Containers toppled over

Thu Mar 07 09:41:40 CET 2019 Timsen

In rough seas several containers toppled over on the stern of the "Helsinki Bridge" on its way to the port of Wilmington enroute from Boston. The ship arrived in Wilmington a week behind schedule after it got into trouble on Feb 27, tow days after sailing from Boston. Waves caused the ship to pitch and roll. The ship arrived at Wilmington on March 6, 2019, and left the sea buoy around 6:30 a.m. towards the Cape Fear River where it berthed around 4 p.m. The ship was allowed to offload the collapsed or damaged containers at the port of Wilmington. The crew will give a full report on any missing containers before they leave. Container ship returned to its dock

Fri Dec 08 19:01:43 CET 2017 Timsen

The "Helsinki Bridge" which broke away from a dock returned early on Dec 8 to the Conley Terminal in South Boston. She was guided into the terminal just after 1 a.m. A team of divers contracted by the Coast Guard examined the ship's hull. Coast Guard investigators were focusing on mooring arrangements used in their investigations. Officials are also conducting interviews on the actions of the crew, docking pilot and harbor workers. The investigation could take several weeks before a report has been finalized. Damage to the Conley Terminal and the Black Falcon Pier was estimated to cost more than $500,000. Container ship broke lose from its moorings

Wed Dec 06 17:50:55 CET 2017 Timsen

The "Helsinki Bridge" broke free from a South Boston terminal in the early morning of Dec 6, 2017. Authorities received a call at 12:45 a.m. after the ship had broken all 12 lines when she was moored at the Paul W. Conley Container Terminal. 10 Conley Terminal members were on board the vessel when it broke free. The ship drifted about 300 feet, damaging the end of the 88 Black Falcon Pier. Once the Coast Guard, Massachusetts State Police, Boston Police and Massport Fire responded, the Conley employees were removed from the vessel and a pilot boat escorted the "Helsinki Bridge" to the Broad Sound between Nahant and Winthrop. The ship will eventually be towed back to the terminal. The incident was under investigation by the Coast Guard. Strong winds may have played a role.
