Trawler seized for overfishing

Sat Jun 02 17:10:37 CEST 2018 Timsen

On June 2, 2018, the patrol boat "Harstad" of the Norwegian Coastguard intercepted the "Santa Princesa" and escorted it to Svolvær due to the suspicion of overfishing in the Norwegian economic zone during a routine check outside Lofotodden. The trawler was about to leave the zone. Te case was handed over to the Nordland police district. The extent of overfishing was difficult to estimate exactly before the cargo has been unloaded. The trawler arrived at Svolvær at 1 p.m. Investigators from the police in Svolvær will question the crew and assess what measures must be taken to find the possible amount of illegal fishing. The trawler left the port of Svolvær again on June 3 at 11.30 p.m. It headed to the fishing grounds in the Barents Sea.
