Collision near Geisenheim
On Nov 18, 2011, at 7.30 a.m. the "Öhringen", 2527 ts (EU-No.: 05105320) was in collision with the German tank barge "Carolin", 2863 ts (ENI-No.: 02330261) on the Rhine at Geisenheim. The "Carolin" was bound to Rüdesheim and carried no cargo, when she came off course and ran into the Wiesbaden-bound "Öhringen" which was loaded with containers. Both ships suffered substantial damage. The tank m/v was breached above the waterline, the container ship suffered major damage in the bow area, and a part of the cargo shioftged due to the collision causing a list which could be corrected by pumping ballast water in. At 10.30 a.m. the ships proceeded to unload or directly enter a repair yard. The damage amounted to about 100,000 €. The investigation into the exact cause of the accident was continuing.
Collision on Maas
The "Öhringen" ran into the Dutch flagged, self propelled barge "Linquenda" on Oct 23, 2011, which was moored on the Old Maas at Zwijndrecht. Two people were slightly injured in the accident and had to go to the hospital. The ships both suffered substantial damage. The German captain had passed the wrong side of a pillar under the bridge.
