Ship suffered damages in storm
The 'Odyssey of the Seas' encountered strong swells as the ship encountered increasingly rough seas during its transatlantic voyage. The Captain of theship told guests they were going to change directions because of a powerful storm front, which brought 6-7 meter waves and 50-knot winds. He advised passengers to remain seated, as the ship would be changing course and there was a possibility it could list. The Crown & Pub Compass, one of the ship’s popular gathering spots for live music, had suffered significant damage, with alcohol bottles and broken glassware shattered across the floor. Cruise ship rescued 77 migrants
The 'Odyssey of the Seas' on its way from Civitavecchia to Santorini , saved 77 migrants, en route from Egypt,. in the Mediterranean Sea who were aboard a sailboat on the early morning of Aug 6, 2024. On board the damaged boat were dozens of migrants crowded together, including women, children and elderly people. A maltese-flagged cargo ship had first spotted the troubled sailboat 112 nautical miles southwest of Pylos on Aug 5. The sailboat appeared to be overloaded and was not making headway.. The nearby cruise ship was dispatched to pick up the migrants and diverted to the position. The cruise ship initially sent one of its tenders and later also deployed a smaller launch. The sailing boat was pulled alongside and alll people embarked onboard. They were taken to the port of Kalamata. Due to the delay caused by the rescue operation, the call at Santorini was cancelled, and the ship headed to Kusadasi instead. Medevac in Bermuda
The 'Odyssey of the Seas' diverted to Bermuda on April 23, 2024, to drop off a 31-year-old male crew member who required medical attention. The ship, which was on its way from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Ponta Delgada in the Azores, arrived in local waters at 7 p.m., and the Indonesian crew member was taken to Ordnance Island by the pilot and rescue boat 'St George' and transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
