Ocean Breeze sunk off San Antonio

Sat May 04 11:45:39 CEST 2013 Timsen

The Maritime Authority of San Antonio confirmed in the morning of May 3 that the "Ocean Breeze" was sunk 46 miles off the coast of San Antonio on a water depth of 2000 meters. The sinking took place after four days of work and inspections onboard the vessel which had been refloated on Apr 26 by Titan Maritime Ltd. (UK) and was overseen by the Maritime Authority. During this time it was found out that the hull had suffered severe structural damage which was affecting its buoyancy with a high probability that it could sink. The ineffectiveness of steering the ship generated a viable scenario for any movement toward a nearby shipyard and the structural damage was irreparable on site. As the entire load was unloaded, there was no risk of environmental damage, given the distance to the coast and depth of the water. The "Rhea" and "Puelo" which already had refloated the ship, pulled it to the scuttling site. The Navy remained in the area for safety measures and environmental monitoring to ensure the safeguarding of human life at sea and the marine environment. Ocean Breeze refloated after eight months on the beach

Tue Apr 30 19:26:40 CEST 2013 Timsen

On Apr 26, 2013, the "Ocean Breeze" was pulled off the beach of San Antonio by the tugs "Rhea" and "Puelo", which were supported by the "Caballo de Trabajo". Titan Maritime, acting under the supervision of the Gobernación Marítima de San Antonio, managed to free the ship at 5 a.m. after deballasting 48000 tons of sea water which had stabilized the ship on the ground. 5 anchors had been installed on the seabed in a distance of 928 meters from the bow to the west, which helped pull the ship around. The vessel was moored 1000 meters off the beach in Llolleo. On Apr 25 around 9 p.m. the salvage had started and was completed within 47 hours. On Apr 27 at 7.30 p.m. the vessel was moved to an area which was approximately 6 miles south west of San Antonio. The operation went smoothly and was supported by good weather. Titan Maritime UK Ltd. to remove Ocean Breeze wreckage

Tue Jan 15 21:23:45 CET 2013 Timsen

The Maritime Authority of San Antonio confirmed that on Dec 7, 2012, the Titan Maritime Company (UK) Ltd. signed a contract with Mark Gold Shipping, owner of the "Ocean Breeze", to carry out the salvage operation of the vessel according to the plan submitted and approved by the Maritime Authority. The tasks to be launched in the coming times consider installing a lifeline and linking the ship to the shore to remove the cargo. After this is completed, the ship will be removed with heave gear. The estimated time frame for the tasks, without considering the possible drawbacks due to bad weather or unforeseen events, could extend for a period of three months. The ship is still placed firmly on the sandy bottom of Llolleo beach.
