Tanker grounded at Keelung
On Dec 1, 2016, at 10.30 a.m. the "Kang Yun", being loaded with more than 20.000 tons of jet fuel and a crew of 24, ran aground 200 meters off the pier of the oil terminal at Keelung upon entering the port of Shen'ao in New Taipei. The grounding was caused by an engine failure. The ship having a draught of up to 9,2 meters, got stuck with the stern on the rocky bottom. Two patrol boats were deployed at 10.38 a.m. to the grouding site. No leak was reported yet, condition of hull unknown. Tugs were busy to pull the tanker off again, which was regarded as a complicated matter. Divers were sent down for surveys. The ship was refloated in the evening and moored at a nearby jetty in Keelung City.
