Medevac off Stortemelk

Wed May 02 09:54:23 CEST 2012 Timsen

On May 1, 2012, at 12.30 p.m. the Dutch lifeboats "Arie Visser" and "Frans Hoewind" of the KNRM-stations West Terschelling and Paal 8 were alerted for a medevac of a man with heart problems aboard the "Oban". The clipper was in position 53 º 25.7 'N / 005 º 00.7' E and had to alter course towards Stortemelk to meet the lifeboats. The "Frans Hogewind" was sent ahead to provide first aid, while the "Arie Visser" first took ambulance personnel aboard. The "Frans Hogewind" reached the "Oban" at 1 p.m. and transferred three men directly onto the clipper who provided the patient with AED and oxygen. Short time later also the "Arie Visser" was on the spot, and crew and ambulance staff were transferred. After examination and treatment, the patient was put onto a stretcher transferred to the "Arie Visser". The lifeboat rushed to Harlingen where he was taken to hospital. The personal and equipment of the "Frans Hogewind" were transferred back from the "Oban", and the boat returned to Paal 8.
