Freighter lost butan cylinders
The "Nukuhau", 1161 gt (IMO: 7925651), which was to call at the Anaa Atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago, French Polynesia, on Feb 18, 2019, was unable to approach it because of strong wind and rough seas. The vessel had to divert to the Makemo atoll where it was expected in the evening to shelter from the storm raging in Tuamotu Archipelago waters. 10 gas cylinders containing butane were washed overboard in the stormy sea. A navigational warning was issued by the JRCC to all ships and boats in the area (AVURNAV No. 008/19). The lost cargo drifted in an area about 50 kilometers north of the Mehetia Atoll in pos. 17-20.086 S 148-05.472 W in the early morning. The freigter had left Papeete on Feb 17.
