Engine failure in Gulf of Corinth
The "NS Union" with eight persons on board, bound for Savona, with a cargo of hydrated aluminium oxide, suffered a main engine failure in the Gulf of Corinth, in lat 38 19.3N, long 22 08.7E, at 1500, on Jan 10, 2018. The vessel arrived at Patras anchorage the same day and was under detention by the authorities. It moored in Patras port on Jan 11 at 8 a.m. It sailed again on Jan 15 at 11.20 a.m.
Maria left Valletta weeks after allision
The "Union" which had been heavily damaged at the stern by the Antigua-Barbuda-flagged heavy load carrier "Maria"(IMO:9266566),on Aug 9 at Laboratory Wharf in Valletta has finally left the port on Sep 28 and headed to Rostov-on-Don, ETA Oct 4. The "Maria" remained on Malta anchorage.
Union hit by Angela
The "Maria" allided with the fishing trawler "Angela Arcella" that was carrying fish bait for fish farms capsized in Grand Harbour and the "Union" on Aug 9, 2016, at 12.10 p.m. at Laboratory Wharf. The heavy load carrier suffered a mechanical failure when it was about to berth and slammed into the starboard side of the Italian fish farming vessel, leading it to capsize. Two crew members of the "Angela Arcella" jumped into the sea and later were taken to hospital, although they were not seriously injured. Measures were being taken to prevent seawater contamination. The "Maria" also hit the moored Congo-registered cargo ship "Union" which then broke its moorings and hit the tug "Lieni", without causing damages.
