On Aug 22 at 8 a.m. the "Hanseatic Spirit" departed from Brake where it had been moored in the inner harbour for repairs at the quay after its collision with the inland water craft "Ascania“ one week ago which were completed now.

By Aug 16 the "Hanseatic Spirit" remained berthed at Brake where it had been moved in the inner harbour, for investigations after its collision with the inland water craft "Ascania“ which may be a total loss due to the severe damage caused at its port side foreship in the collision on Aug 15. In the inner port also the "Ascania" was berthed after the fire rescue with 6 engines had succeeded to keep the vessel which had been bound for Oldenburg with its cargo of 500 tons grain afloat.

On Aug 15, 2010, at 2.20 p.m., the "Hanseatic Spirit" was in collision with the German inland water craft "Ascania", 550 ts (EU-No.: 04018510) near Brake, Wesermarsch community, after machine failure. When the ship which was fully loaded with 4000 tons cellulose was about to berth at Brake coming from Sevilla, the engine went out, and the ship drifted against the berthed "Ascania" which was breached in the foreship underneath the waterline. The "Ascania" which was loaded with 500 tons grain was in danger of sinking. A dredger assisted with his pumps and succeeded to control the flooding, the vessel was stabilised by the fire rescue. No injuries reported. The police launched an investigation and questioned both crews. The damage was some hundred thousand Euro.
