In the morning of Mar 28, 2014, at 9.40 a.m. a fire erupted in the cabin area inside the superstructure of the "Sichem Amethyst", anchored on Tarragona road six miles from the port of Tarragona. It forced to evacuate 17 crew members, except the captain, first officer and chief engineer, who remained on board to assist in the fire fighting efforts. The "Salvamar Diphda" evacuated the 17 crewmen chemical who were landed in the area where the Maritime Rescue Centre Tarragona had several ambulances on scene. The harbor tugs "Remo", "Guernica" and "Cambrils" were sent to assist the fire Brigade which was dispatched aboard the Helimer 201 helicopter. The fire could be brought under control. The Tarragona Port Authority had activated the Self-Protection Port Plan (PAU ) at level 3. After the fire was extinguished, the tanker was towed to port and berthed at 3.40 p.m. The amount of damage aboard the tanker which had sailed from Fos-sur-Mer on Mar 26 at 10 p.m. was yet unknown.
